Fashion Fancies: Tropical Loveland
I love flicking through back issues of fashion magazines and finding gems from past seasons - like this lush feature from Madison with its retro flares, bold canary yellow prints, chunky candy-coloured bangles and groovy mod cuts. Fashion moves lightning fast but, dare I say it, these retrospective looks are still super-current and I sure wouldn't be throwing them out of my closet any time soon! Would you? I know, shocking blog content! Sure, I may be provoking derisive snorts from true fashion-ettes, but I'm feeling cheeky today and love retro... even if its really from November '09.

Fashion Fancies: The Dreamer & The Gypsy
Freshly picked from the pages of Vogue UK this Fall fashion feature brings back fond memories of late summer travels with my mum. We'd pack up into our tangerine station wagon and drive across the country, singing along to Bob Dylan tapes and stopping at truck stops to pour water into the radiator. We wore tie-dyed bandanas, to keep the wind from whipping our hair into tangled messes, as we loved to drive with the windows down. I never had a pair of ruby red suede wedges, but I'm almost certain I had those brown stripey knee-socks.

Since I've started working as a freelance designer, I've been lucky enough to work with some very sweet people on some equally sweet projects. Alas, I am often feeling like the "new girl" and hence, find myself self-consciously wondering about the state of my hair or make-up. A girl must make a good impression, you know. That's why I've been obsessing over these pretty pocket mirrors from Cartolina. What a perfectly lovely way to check one's reflection whilst dashing around Melbourne's design studios putting out creative fires. Nancy to the rescue... with neat hair and lippy, of course!

From the moment she appeared on screen as a doll-faced ten-year-old in Lassie Come Home, Elizabeth Taylor was winning hearts - and who could forget her as Velvet Brown in National Velvet? Of course, she grew up to be a smokin' hot screen siren (think Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Cleopatra) who tempted audiences for nearly three decades through the fifties, sixties and seventies. I just love the gorgeous blue bathers she's wearing here, her sweet smile and the classic pin-up pose.

Etsy Love: Hopelessly Devoted
Lovely, lovely, lovely! That's all I can say about these beautiful hair pieces and accessories by Hopelessly Devoted. Handmade from exquisite fabrics such as silk, chiffon, velvet and lace these vintage-inspired pretties are so feminine and delicate. And, since they come in such precious colours (soft lavender, mint green and rose pink to name a few!) I'm fantasising about owning one of everything. Swoon! Sigh!

It's no wonder vintage beauty and perfect pin-up girl, Betty Grable, was most famous for her luscious legs. In fact, in the late forties, they were insured for one million dollars. And why wouldn't you? I mean, just look at those pins! I remember watching Betty in glorious musical comedies like Coney Island with my mum on Sunday afternoons. She was cute and bubbly and we sang along to all the songs.

Project Pretty House: Vintage Glamour by The Dansant
I must confess, it took me a while to find the "perfect" Project Pretty House post for today. I knew I wanted something vintage and delightful that would look visually appealing above my last post. Something with gentle shades of brown and gold... It wasn't until quite late in the day when I spotted these treasures by Belgian sisters Nimue and Isis from The Dansant. Now, I'm pleased as punch to present these smashing vintage button magnets and milk glass vases. Great styling too, don't you think?

I stumbled across this film still from forties flick The Harvey Girls via Amy's Classic Movie blog today. As soon as I saw it I knew I had found today's vintage icon. This is young Angela Lansbury (can you believe it!?) playing a buxom blonde Cooch dancer at a Western saloon. Isn't she divine? And the dress is nothing short of breath-taking, wouldn't you say? The movie tagline says it all;

Vintage Icons: Rita Hayworth
Stunning Rita Hayworth, in an unbelievably sexy lace gown, caught my eye on Pinterest last week and I've been meaning to post about her ever since. She's the perfect Vintage Icon; a true glamour girl of the 1940s. She danced with Fred Astaire and was a popular pin-up girl for military servicemen. It's hard to believe, but she once described herself as 'painfully shy'. I'm not sure I'd be shy if I looked like that, would you?
